Here are some very important guidelines to remember when you go kite flying.
Remember, just because flying a kite is fun, doesn’t mean it can’t be dangerous too. It can, but if you take the proper precautions and select the right kite flying gear, you have nothing to worry about.
- As Ivan Riteman said in the movie Ghost Busters, "Don’t cross the streams!"
But in this case, he would say "Don’t cross different types of flying line!" - Not all kite line (string) is created equal.Almost any other type of line used for kite flying can cut Spectra line – which is most commonly used for stunt kite flying.
- Although it features very strong woven fibers in it’s construction, Spectra line hasa very low melting point. As a result, the the friction generated by just about any other type of line crossing Spectra line will swiftly cause that line to break.
- The type of lines (like Cotton or Dacron) that used for single line , and some low-end sport kites often cause major problems when sharing the sky for both other Kiters and spectators as well due to it’s ability to so easily sever Spectra lines.
Remember that should a sport kite flying at high speed has one or all of its lines cut, that kite will go out of control. The possibly causing an unintentional injury or perhaps death to anyone within it’s path is very real.
- The smaller the Sport kite, the faster its relative speed at any given wind speed, compared to its larger counterparts. A fast moving kite can cause serious injury, especially if out of control of its flyer.
